What is Abhyanga?

About Abhyanga

Modern life often leaves us feeling physically exhausted and mentally drained. Constant stress, poor circulation, and a buildup of toxins can take a toll on our vitality. Abhyanga, the traditional Ayurvedic full-body oil massage, offers a time-tested natural solution to restore balance and vigor. Bali, with its serene atmosphere and world-class wellness culture, provides the perfect backdrop for this deeply healing therapy. Whether you are looking to detoxify your body or simply find a moment of profound peace, Abhyanga is the ultimate choice for holistic relaxation.

Abhyanga is a cornerstone of Ayurvedic therapy, involving a rhythmic massage of the entire body with warm, medicated herbal oils. In Sanskrit, "Abhyanga" literally means "massaging the body parts." It is practiced both as a daily self-care ritual ( Dinacharya ) and as a vital preparatory step in the intensive Panchakarma detoxification process.

Got Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before your Abhyanga session at Yara Wellness.

You will be provided with a disposable undergarment. The therapy is traditionally performed with minimal clothing to allow the herbal applications to reach all necessary areas of the body. Your privacy and comfort are always maintained with careful draping throughout the session.
A full Abhyanga session at Yara Wellness generally lasts 60 minutes, which includes the specialized therapy followed by a restorative resting period or a warm herbal steam bath to maximize absorption.
We recommend arriving on a light stomach. Avoid heavy meals at least 2 hours before your session. A small snack is fine, but a full meal may cause discomfort as the body's digestive energy and healing energy work optimally when not in conflict.
We suggest waiting at least 30–60 minutes before showering to allow the medicinal herbs and oils to continue absorbing into the skin and tissues. When you do shower, use warm (not hot) water and mild soap to preserve as much of the therapeutic benefit as possible.
